Bastrop Memories

Today I got out of the house....yeah! We went to the Claiborne reunion and got to see most of our cousins. It is always a good time! It is also a reminder that Grandma & Grandpa have been gone for 2 and 3 years. Oh, how we miss them. Grandma was the SWEETEST lady on the planet. She knew everyone in Bastrop by name, phone number and their family tree! She took the time to get to know you and treated you like you were the most special person in the whole world! Grandma loved people so much that her house was always open. The more people over for dinner the better. She loved a party! I want to be that way!! She has a sister, JuJu who is still alive and lives two blocks away. We stopped by her house today for a visit. She is a wonderful lady as well. Grandpa lived one year after Grandma died and he was very special to Michael. His brother who is 91 was there today and he is the funniest old man I know. He cracks jokes like crazy!! He is extremely healthy and was helping take care of his great-grandchildren today!! After the reunion everyone goes over to Grandma and Grandpa's house and watches the fireworks. By the way their house will be in the new Julia Roberts movie Fireflies in the Garden, which was filmed across the street.
Everyone has a ton of memories at 1202 Pecan! Doodle and Jack bought the house over 65 years ago for $6,000 and raised their children in it. Michael grew up playing over there everyday. In the 10 years that I have been going there the memories will last me forever. I am saying all of this to say.... the house is FOR SALE. Guess who wants it?? ME! Michael and I are the only ones in the family who really want it and they want us to have it. I am not sure if we can swing it (it is kinda pricey), but God knows I will take it! Anyways, we love it that our girls have grown up going over there and have memories just like their daddy! The fireworks were great this year and the weather was nice!!
