So, God is really funny! In the middle of August, God told me 3 words as I was folding laundry...."puppets for orphans". It caught me so off guard that I got tears in my eyes at that moment. I was not really sure what to do about it, but I knew on the inside that I was to make puppets. As a child I was in the children's ministry and my children's pastor taught me how to make puppets and trained me to do the puppets. It has been many years since I have worked with puppets, so it was a strange thought that I was to make puppets again!
I emailed my friend who taught me so much about puppets and she gave the details about making them. I also ordered a simple pattern from online. For several weeks, Asia was so BIG in my heart that I started applying for adoption info and wondered if the time was right to start the process of adopting a child. God was giving me studies online about the care and the ministry involved for orphans. He also sent me a book in the mail about a girl that was adopted and how He sent a teenager overseas to hand pick her sister. I read the book in like 3 days and my heart was so touched my orphans...I almost popped!
About 2 weeks ago, my friend Yana called and invited me over for lunch. As I walked out of the door I grabbed the pattern and took it!
I was not really thinking much about it, but wanted to see if she could help me figure out a simple way to make several. I am so serious....I did not even think of the fact that Yana adopted a girl from Russia and that her husband is on the board of director of Vision Beyond Boarders where they build orphanages in Burma and all of Asia. It seriously never crossed my mind. I also forgot that Polina, her daughter came from an orphanage that would love to have puppets as well. So, I shared with her everything that God had showed me about these puppets and she said that is was really funny because she was about to have the girls start a sewing project. And that Polina first heard about God through a Christian lady that used a puppet in the orphanage that she was from in Russia.
Well, that night Patrick Klein called and Yana shared with him all about what God has said and he was thrilled! The refugee camp in Thailand has a 150,000 (Karen) people from Burma and they have requested items for the children. WoW! God is cool! He asked how many could we make and Yana said 100. Well, the funny thing was that I had told Yana that I wanted to make a 100 puppets for the Burma orphans by November so that the team leaving from our church could take them with them, but that it was too big of a project for me and I cannot even sew! So to make a really long story shorter..Yana and I made an announcement at church and got $1600 and 15 seamstress and cutters that are ready to help us crank these puppets out!
Another really fun part is that my Awana kids (about 60 kids) will also be a part. We are taking pictures of our children with the puppets and placing a picture in each puppet for the orphans. Patrick Klein will handing them out to the children and he will take pictures of them receiving them and mail them to us! Oh... I can hardly wait!
We have women of all ages that are sewing and cutting on these puppets all over. We are really excited about it, because it gives everyone a ministry and part of something that is a real blessing to children who have nothing. Only God could think of something like this...a ministry that blesses everyone involved!
Here are some pictures of the first batches of material leaving with the seamstress! I am really excited about all that God has done in a short time with this ministry! We named it Puppets for Orphans and we created a basic website that will have pictures and updates!

Being apart of Puppets for Orphans has stirred me up in so many ways. God wants all of His children to know He loves them, and my heart is just overwhelmed everytime I am putting those little faces together. :)
